SMDEP program sites are completely autonomous in making admission decisions. The SMDEP national program office has established the following guidelines regarding acceptance procedures for sites and applicants. SMDEP Program sites are expected to follow these guidelines.

The following Traffic Rules will be in effect for the summer 2008 application year:

  1. Program sites can begin offering acceptances on December 11, 2007 upon the site's receipt of a complete application. An application is complete when the applicant submits a certified application and the national program office has marked all transcripts as received. All sites receive applications on the same day.

  2. Sites have an application review period of 10 business days. Admission actions will be submitted online and will be viewable to the applicant on the 11th business day; therefore, applicants may not contact any site(s) about admissions prior or during the program(s) 10 business-day review period.

  3. If an applicant recieves an offer prior to the end of the 10th business day, applicants have up to an additional 5 business days (after the site's 10 business-day review period) to notify their designated site(s) of their intent to participate or decline an offer. Applicants must notify the site(s) by mail, fax, or e-mail.
FAQ: Application Process - Question #3 provides an example of a processing timeline.

  4. Confirm at one site only! Please do not confirm at a site unless you are sure it is the one you want to attend. All confirmations are final. If you choose to withdraw from your confirmed site, you may not be considered at any other SMDEP site during the summer of 2008.

Should you have questions, contact the national program office toll free at (866) 58-SMDEP, or smdep@aamc.org.
