OverviewThe University of Washington School of Medicine's Office of Multicultural Affairs is committed to the promotion of diversity within health care. In pursuit of these goals, we are dedicated to supporting the academic and professional success of students who are underrepresented in medicine, including those who have demonstrated a commitment to working with underserved populations; serving the health care needs of unserved and underserved communities by promoting an academic and clinical training environment that is diverse, collaborative, and supportive; enriching the academic and clinical training environment of the School of Medicine by actively promoting a diverse faculty and student body that, in turn, will better prepare medical students and residents to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse society; and endorsing the attributes of diversity and promoting training in cultural sensitivity among medical students, residents, and faculty in caring for all patients irrespective of ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or disability. The mission of the University of Washington School of Dentistry (SOD), through education, research, and service programs, is to prepare students to be competent oral health care professionals. In pursuit of this goal, the SOD strives to improve the health and well-being of the people in the region through outreach programs that are especially attentive to minority and underserved populations, and values diversity in its students, staff, faculty, and patient populations.
