Overview

SMDEP at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and College of Dental Medicine provides students seriously interested in applying to medical or dental school with a well-defined, integrated approach to learning, focusing on the basic science curriculum needed to apply to medical or dental school. Students engage in intense labs, learning skills, and career development courses during the six weeks of the program, while at the same time attending weekly clinical rotations and seminars.

The program strives to help students enhance and improve their chances of becoming a successful applicant/student at a medical or dental school of his or her choice.

Finances

  • Meals: 3 meals/day, 5 days a week (stipend and/or catered meals)

  • Travel Assistance: $100 travel stipend for all students

  • Stipend: Distributed after completion of the program

Living

  • Housing: Each student will be housed in a single air-conditioned dorm room

  • Health Insurance: Student health plan provided on a limited case-by-case basis

  • Social Activities: Exposure to the diverse social and cultural environment of New York City through various group activities (i.e. museums, landmarks, cruise/bus tours)
