Pre-medicine: Clinical experiences will include, a
minimum of three shadowing opportunities in areas such as: general internal
medicine, family medicine, internal medicine specialties, emergency medicine,
surgery, pediatrics, and UNMC studen-run community health clinics. Pre-medicine
scholars will also have a weekly anatomy class plus small group activities
on history taking, taking blood pressures, etc.
Pre-dentistry: Scholars will participate in a variety
of "hands-on" preclinical dental experiences such as taking impressions
and making dental models; "playing dentist" using manikins; participating
in an anatomy laboratory demonstration; and working in a dental radiology
project. Scholars will also shadow in a dental clinic; spend time in the emergency
room; and participate in a hospital operating room experience, i.e. providing
dental care under general anesthesia in a hospital operating room.
Both Medical and Dental scholars wil have the opportunities
to serve as Spanish-language translators at the UNMC student-run community
health clinics. |
