Applying Overview

Transcripts Overview

1. Can I call to obtain information regarding the application status of my son/daughter?

No, the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) National Program Office will only communicate information to the applicant.

2. What are the income qualifications (income guidelines) for the program? If I am unemployed, what should my son/daughter enter for my income? Should I provide proof?

All household income must be reported. If an applicant or parent is not currently employed, the applicant should indicate "Not applicable" on the application where applicable. If additional information is needed, the National Program Office will contact the applicant.

3. What is the stipend for each program site?

All program sites offer a $600 stipend. Details on stipend distribution can be found under "Program Sites: Living & Finances".

4. When are admission decisions released?

The National Program Office offers two notification dates for applicants: February 15 and April 1. The admission decision release date is based on the application complete date. For additional information, see Admission Guidelines.

5. How many students are accepted into the program each year?

Each program site can select up to 80 applicants to participate in their medical and dental program.

Please be advised that each SMDEP program site makes admission decisions on a first-come, first-served basis, therefore applying as early as possible increases an applicant's chance of receiving an offer of acceptance from their designated program site(s).

6. Are some program sites better than others?

All program sites offer the same academic enrichment program. For an overview of the curriculum, start and end dates, living and finances, at each program site, see Program Sites.
