BWH STARS Program
The Office for Multicultural Faculty Careers at Brigham and Women's
Hospital (BWH) is recruiting its inaugural cohort of scholars to
participate in the Summer Training in Academic Research and Scholarship
Program (STARS). This 8 week program allows underrepresented minority
college juniors, seniors and first year medical students to engage
in basic, clinical or translational research projects under the
supervision of BWH and Harvard Medical School faculty advisors.
The BWH STARS Program will cover students travel costs to and from
Boston, provide free housing and offer a stipend for the summer.
The application deadline is January 22, 2010. Information/Application
Short-Term Education Program for Underrepresented Persons
(STEP-UP)
The STEP-UP program is designed to provide short-term research education
and training for high school and undergraduate students from racial/ethnic
groups underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research, and
students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The application deadline
is February 15, 2010.

Ventures Scholars Program
The Ventures Scholars Program is a national membership program designed
to help underrepresented and first-generation college-bound students
interested in pursuing math- and science-based careers find information,
resources, and opportunities that will support them in successfully
pursuing their career goals. The program collaborates with colleges,
universities, professional associations, and organizations nationwide
(VSP Partners) and offers a variety of tools to connect students
to the partners' information, resources, and opportunities.

University of Michigan Profile for Success
Profile for Success is an intensive DAT and MCAT preparation and
skills-building program for 3rd and 4th year pre-dental and pre-medical
college students and recent graduates. The application deadline
is March 8, 2010.

Patty Iron Cloud National Native American Youth Initiative
American Indian/Alaska Native high school students age 16-18 that
are planning to enter a health profession are eligible to apply.
Students are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, demonstrated
interest in the fields of health sciences or biomedical research,
leadership skills, and personal attributes. Scholarship pays for
lodging, most meals, and travel expenses.The application deadline
is April 16, 2010.

University of Pittsburgh -SPAEP
SPAEP is a six week summer-research program that pairs underrepresented
students who are beyond their second year of college with biomedical
researchers in a variety of areas. Faculty from the departments
of Human Genetics, Cell Biology and Physiology, Immunology, Pathology,
School of Dental Medicine, and many others have supervised the experiences
of SPAEP students in the past. SPAEP is a residential program; travel,
room, and board are provided.
